I have been teaching at SPCC since 2004. I love interacting with students everyday and working with my peers. I also love playing and coaching basketball, playing baseball, and golfing. I love being spontaneous and riding the wave of life where it takes me. I am also very proud to have the best wife, duaghter, and a brand new edition on the way in September. My parents are a driving force in who I have become and throughout my life I have had the best friends around me who love me for who I am. God has guided me in many ways that have turned into miracles.

Tuesday May 17th

Remember today we are bringing in one article of clothing for the less fortunate.  Again you can bring in more than one article if you would like to and I will bring it to salvation army.  Doing this will earn you 5 dollars.  Your other job is to complete a pie chart from any of the questions I have posted on this blog. To complete a pie chart by hand you must do some math.  Here are the steps.  First, you need a percent of each part of the whole.  Each part in this case would be each of the answers.  Second, change the percent into a decimal.  I hope we all know how to do this but I will remind you that all you do is take the percent and move the decimal point two places to the right.  Third, you must now multiple each decimal by 360, which is the whole of a circle.  This will give you the amount of degrees of the circle that each question is.  Last, you have to measure the angle of degrees from the center point of the circle.  The easiest way to do this is with a protractor.   If you use a computer to do the pie chart you will earn 5 dollars for the project.  If you do it by hand then you will earn and extra 5 dollars which some of you need.  You must include your calculations to obtain the extra five dollars, with a color coded key.  Good luck!!!

  1. Aoife ask your mom about ordering and what I have to do to get the pizza's We will need them for 500 o'clock, I think that's when the dinner break is. There are about 20 people who will be eating. Oh and my wife just said we may order there tonight so if she is working we can put the order in. Whatever I have to do let me now. I know corner grille pizzas are not 8 slices so we need enough to feed 20 hungry people. Thanks!!!

  2. If we do more than one chart on the computer then can we earn an extra $5.00

  3. P.S Mr Phillips can you tell me how to change my spread sheet into a pie graph forgot.

  4. Just did work out challenge(:

  5. Are you on excel or word Harrison?

And nice work Dominique I love the hard work!!!

  8. hey mr. phillips. is it okay if I bring in an old pair of flip flops?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hey mr. Phillips I donated my clothes that didn't fit already what can we do to earn the 5 bucks

    ReplyDelete
  10. I give all my clothes that don't fit to my cousins... so is it alright if we bring in something of our parents (if they say it's okay)? 'Cause I told my mom about this and she was wondering if we could do that instead....

    ReplyDelete
  11. Dominique you can bring in another canned good, or bring in a small donation for the church if that's ok. If it isn't let me know and i'll give you more options ok?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks Aoife I will give her a call!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Aoife I just called mom and she did not answer and her mail box was full. Is there another way I can reach her?

Alexia any article of clothing is fine, it doesn't have to be yours. Caitlin flip flops are fine too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Aoife thanks for the input, does not need to pay please reiterate that to her. Pizzas are all set thank you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. kaayyy thanks mr. phillips!
also... if we write the chart out on our own and such..... and we mess up... will we still get the $5?

    ReplyDelete
  16. mr. phillips
if we do the pie chart wrong do we not get any of the 5 dollor?

    ReplyDelete
  17. OHHH, i have a question mr. phillips.... two questions actually:
    1. what are aoife, lucas, peter, caitlin, claudia, and I doing with our eggs tomorrow?
nope, nevermind, there's just one.. so there.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I should ignore you Alexia for saying I have a question but I will answer them anyways. If I see your calculations and see you put in the effort you MOST LIKELY will get the 5 dollars. Also you can leave your baby in free day care at the end of the day. The day care company heard about all the science fair representatives and offered up on the house care as long as you do your best at the science fair.

  19. Hey Mr. Phillips, for the hand written chart, to get the extra money, you said we needed to show the calcualtions. Does this mean write out all of the math or just the steps we took such as math=11/64=17%=.17=62 degrees?

    ReplyDelete
  20. mr. phillips
for are article of clothing, can we bring in stuff animals too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh, yeah... well... my famous line ('i have a question') will be missed by the teachers next year. No doubt about ittt! and okaayy. Thank you free day care companyy thing.
AND 'the woo cardinal' has a good questionnn. 'cause I wrote like... the multiplication out.. but i also wrote that other stufff.. like how many votes, the percentage, the decimal, and what I got for the degrees...

    ReplyDelete
  22. i think i did it wrong i did it a second time not sure if it is right now

    ReplyDelete
  23. I just did the work out challenge!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. the steps of getting the decimals to multiplying the decimals by 360 to get the degrees of the circle. Normally you would have to ge the percent of the whole sample but the question does that for you.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nice job Juliana. Now go on amusement park rides, that is your new work out challenge!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hi Mr. Phillips! i really want to do this pie chart out by hand but im at a loss! i cant figure it out because i stink at math!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Did the workout thanks to Juliana saying that, hahaha. Thank youuu!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Marisa I will walk you threw it if your here

    ReplyDelete
  29. im heree :) i just finished a kind of failed attempt at the chart... will it still count for at least five dollars tomorrow? or should i do another one on the computer just in case the fist one doesn't count?

    ReplyDelete
  30. If you put the effort in your fine. Let me walk you threw the steps tell me if you understand or not ok?

    ReplyDelete
  31. the first question about which class you would want to teach

    ReplyDelete
  32. By the way I just took off the word verification 5 minutes ago. Do you still have to type it in when you comment?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ok so you have all the percents the first thing you had to do was change it to decimals which is easy, for example 22% is .22, did you do that?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Awesome sorry I just figured out the word verification just now, I'm learning too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ok now the next thing you need to do is get the percent of a circle for each subject. Let's start with math which is 17% or .17. Now you need to get 17% of a circle do you understand that you have to do that?

    ReplyDelete
  36. kind of... i multiplied it by 360 but i did not have a protractor.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ok thats good Marisa. So the whole is 360, because we are dealing with a circle, and you want to represent 17% of the whole which you get by multiplying 360 by .17!!! So your doing everything right. Now unfortunately the next step is to take 61.2 which you got when you multiplied 360 by .17. This number means 61.2 degrees which means that 61.2 degrees is 17% of the circle.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Now heres what to do Marisa, because you don't have a protractor do some estimation. What is a quarter of a circle in degrees?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Mr. Phillips, i really appreciate you helping me but my parents keep telling me i have to go to bed. i am going to wake up early tommorrow so i can try to fix it. thank you for your help!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am sorry for keeping you up with this and I appreciate the effort more trust me. Do me one more favor please???

    ReplyDelete
  41. ok i really have to go now. thank you! night night!

    ReplyDelete
  42. ok i keep writing after you type sorry! yes i can do you a favor

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes quarter of a circle is 90 good work and half of ninety is 45, so you need less than a quarter but more than half the quarter. But the favor I want you to do is sleep in and dont worry about the rest ok???

    ReplyDelete
  44. ok, i'll try but i still have to get up early to study anyways

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good night thank you for working hard no stressing about the pie chart you have already earned 10 dollars!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. this is really the last post this time! thank you! goodnightt!

  47. My best memory I have at SPCC was my trip to Nature's Classroom in the sixth grade. I liked how I was able to get to know all you guys better being a new student. I really enjoyed all the fun activities at Nature's Classroom up until I broke my foot. Anyways it was a really fun time.

  48. i've been here for ten years but my favorite memories i believe is still yet to come.... during the exciting umcoming 8th grade events but heres my 4 now: This years musical the musical is one of the most fun nights of the year but i will never forget the friday night of a decade of musicals ): tho it was sad it was fun because we went out to pepercorns aftr and the bruins won tht night i'll always remember tht tht had happened during the musical. in between our performances we were all listening 2 the game hahahahahaha whenever they scored we'd scream! but then it was so emotional at the end. it had really sunk in tht it was the begining of the end. me and james were like the only ones on our side who were crying but i beleive everyone on the girls/darell/shawn side was bawling. i'll never forget tht night- thanks for all of the great memories guys.

  49. my favorite memory- i gotta side with harrison. natures classroom. i remember everything from booboo island to underground railroad to the food to the awesome cabins to the night[and day] hikes, and all the cool stuff we did there. hey i still have a pic. of my field group-[tristan, tyler, lexi p, juliana, rajveer, me, rachel c] if anyone wants it! i still remember that 2! haha good times

    ReplyDelete
  50. My best memory: Definitely the musical because we are like a family and it was the last one but definitely the most fun. Everyone was so happy but sad at the same time because it was the last. Everyone realized how it was our last one so we all just started crying and I remeber everyone was hugging even people who aren't the best of friends and all I was thinking was oh my gosh this was the best night ever because we didn't care what people thought. We were our 4 year old selves for a short time. Crying in front of the whole entire school. I was also thinking ... If this is the musical whats gonna happen at graduation?... uh-oh we are all going to be a wreck so maybe mr.p everyone's favorite memory will change and it will be graduation as all of our favorite memories :)

  56. My favorite memory was playing Boo Boo Island at Nature's Classroom. It was my favorite memory because it was funny watching people get hurt as well as you got hurt. I still have a couple Bruises!!!!LOL!!!!!!!

  57. ahh so many memories from SPCC!! lunch time with all my friends is always a good memory butthe musical is definetly up there. but there was also that time last year when mr. coonan was trying to help mr. phillips attempt a backwalkover. however, i think my top one is the underground rail road with Mr. p as Conny and Mr. c as old man river and when mr. coonan was comforting amy, mr. phillips said to me, juliana and james, "ook you can come out of character for a little bit until mr. coonan comes back" and juliana said, "ummm mr. phillips why are you wearing a dress?" and he relpied "quiet!! what are you doing? you arent allowed to come out of character!!" good times good times...

  58. Man I thought the sixth grade musical was the best hahahahaha guess I was wrong. I want to congratulate Aoife, Alexia, Claudia, and Caitlin for representing the school and themselves so well today at the science fair. Also, Peter and Lucas won first place which is an amazing accomplishment. You all really made me proud so thank you!!!

My favorite memory at SPCC is knowing everything. I know that sounds ridiculous but you dont understand how much of a family it is until you see it from a different perspective. You have to take the good with the bad every day of your life. I love seeing you all grow and you all need to know what a major impact you all have on my life. I dont think you all know that but you do. I learn so much everyday by waking up every morning, even when I dont want to, and going to school. Im so lucky and I hope you realize you are too. It's crazy I went to the same nature's classroom as you guys in 4th grade and still remember it like it was yesterday. HAHAHAHAHA small world. I invented booboo island to which is hilarious. Didnt know it would leave a lasting impression mentally, (I knew it would physically hahaah). Thanks for everything everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh and underground railroad is my favorite thing ever!!! I remember yours vividly so fun serious and funny after the fact. And juliana I will wear a dress whenever I want hahahaha!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. oh memories... Because I have been at this school for many many years now, I have quite a lot of wonderful memories. These memories include when we did the underground railroad in Natures classroom. I still vividly remember Mr. Phillips/Conny in that dress! But my favorite part of that night was when Conny and Old Man River completely improvised and made up what they were saying, confusing and befuddling the poor field group leaders! Oh that was sooo great!
Another great memory is at the musical this year when we all started bawling! We were such babies! But at that moment when we were all crying I realized how much we are all going to miss each other next year and how close we have become. I will never forget these memories!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh i forgot my favorite memory of all! We were outside and me riss juliana aoife and leighann were talking with Mr.P and Mr.C. Part 1 of my favorite memory is when Mr. Coonan tried to shimmy!! Oh my goodness I have never seen anything more funny! and after this Mr. Phillips showed us a video on Mr. C's phone of double dream hands. sooooo funny!!!!!!!! part 2 of my memory is when we put double dream hands up on the smart board and did it during the musical night!! that was the best moment

  63. Since I have been at S.P.C.C for 10 years, I have a lot of great memories that I would love to share but I guess I'll need to narrow it down to one...or maybe two. So I guess one of my best memories was after this years musical (which was awesome) when everybody met at Peppercorns. We got to hangout and spend time with each other which was a great way to end the night. Another one of my favorite memories was all of Natures Classroom. Everything from Booboo Island to our nature walks were wicked fun. I'm sad to know that we only have a couple more weeks to make our last memories together. But whatever guess we all knew we would need to move on eventually. Well peace out peoples!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks for the science fair thingy! i thoroughly enjoyed representing the school. hahahah. Alright I think a lot of my favorite memories include Mr. Coonan and Mr. Phillips too Michaela! A lot of pretty funny stuff. I definitely loved the musical in 6th grade. There were some intense musical numbers there! And we put it together in, like, a week, so it didn't get boring. The actual nights of the musical this year were great too, even though they were kind of sad! I especially loved when Marisa and I had to sit at the bottom of the stage Thursday night and give out flowers on sticks to 2nd graders. That was completely random and hilarious! hahaha. I loved nature's classroom too.. I didn't think I was going to like it because I used to have a serious issue with not wanting to leave home. I got over it and had a great time! Sadly I wasn't with mr coonan and mr phillips for the underground railroad, so i didn't get to witness that craziness! hahahah. I have sooo many memories of SPCC.. I can't even write them all! Hmm, I remember when my friends and i were OBSESSED with wall tag for the longest time and we played it every single day at recess for like 4 years! good times(:

    ReplyDelete
  65. I had a great time at the science fair todayy! hahaha, it was just AAMMAAZZINNGG! Um... My favorite SPCC memory.. lets see... there are so many! I gotta agree, I liked natures classroom... I remember I was in a 'field group' and Aoife, ben f., taysha, and matt bullis were in the group, too...Our guide person was new, and we were supposed to go on that like.. two hour hike. But while we were walking through the woods, we got lost... Then when we were trying to find our way back there were a billion huge mud puddles! Of course someone wanted to walk right through them, and Matt B. was that person. He ended up falling like.. face flat and being covered in mud. Taysha had recorded the whole thing on camera! It's one of those memories where you think about something (in general) and then it just replays in the back of your head.. but yeah

    ReplyDelete
  66. Also, Mr. Phillips.. I'm gonna be late for school.. like... I won't come in till about 11.. I have a doctors appointment, but I just was told about it... so idk what you want me to do..

    ReplyDelete
  67. Alexia there are two others who are int he same boat and you need to write 5 compound sentences and 5 complex sentences. I hope you did enjoy yourself today girls seriously, it is a good experience. Oh that assignment will get you the money you need for day ok?

More memories for me include basketball. So many great moments wins loses practices and more. Nothing like a family within a family!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I have a lot of good memories here. The musical definitely ranks up there. At first I didn't know what was going on but Shawn looked like he had gotten hurt. The you turn around and see everyone crying and soon enough you're crying too. It's contagious.
Sitting through mass with my little buddy constantly trying to fall asleep is always fun. Love little buddies. My best memory is probably standing around with Adriano, Tristan, and possibly a couple other people watching the Little Buddies play musical chairs. Mariano just kept walking in a straight line. Such a cute kid.
Possibly my best memory isn't really school but kind of is. In fifth grade my dad went to Cosavo for eighteen months, and he came back on Fright Night :) My mom didn't even tell me he was coming home. He literally spent the night running around the Haunted Hallway, and then went to the airport to meet him, costume and all.

  69. my memory was the musical...even though i had musical for 2 year the best one was this year...the musical was fun...this year is also my best memory because last year i didnt talk at all, but this year i do... this year was the best of all...and im going to miss all of you guys!!!!

  70. My most prominent SPCC memory is most likely our trip to Nature's Classroom back in 6th grade. I thought Nature's Classroom was the best, especially the food... Anyways, I had very good roommates at NC, Adriano and Evan, and I remember that we used to tell jokes at night after we wnet to bed (of cousre, they weren't really all that good, but whatever). Then, I thought field group's leader, Zach, was the coolest gut ever, especially as he was Swedish (for some reason, I find Swedish guys coll, such as Tejbz on Machinima...). Our firld group was quite amazing, and I remember that on one rainy day, Matt B. had been trudging through all the puddles, but at one oint, he got stuff in the mud of one puddle and fell over into the water, which was quite hillarious at the time. I also enjoyed the Predator vs. Prey giant tag game we participated in; however, I had crashed into a fire hydrant earlier that week while playing Boo Boo Island and busted my knee, making it difficult to run, but it was fun all the same. I remember the whole week begin full of fun stuff (although I was VERY disappointed that I couldn't swim across the lake there) and out giant football game against the other school inhabiting the campus at the same time as us was immensely entertaining. Overall, Nature's Classroom was amazing; it was the first actual woods oriented which I've attended and enjoyed. Oh, I wish I was in 6th grade again. Things were so much simpler...
Our trip to NC, as I said, was my most PROMINENT memory, meaing it stood out the most. I'm sure there is something else which I should have put as my favorite memory, but as of right now, I can't think of it as I'm tried and would like to sleep (more that six hours...).

  71. my favorite memory was when me and aoife were paired up for some kind of like game in science and we got almost everything right about ourselves. my other favorite memory was in 6th grade, we were playing a game in math and mr. coonan asked what I on the chemicle table thingy meant. i wanted to say iodine but i never did and it ended up being that answer

    ReplyDelete
  72. My favorite memory is when I was in 5th grade. Instead of starting off the yr the normal way ms woods decided to teach us jaPanese and give us that cool Japanese candy. Ms woods was always just cool like that. Also when we went to NC. While we were there I always had a lot of fun. And the underground railroad thing was amazing and it really made me appreciate what I have today
    For obvious reasons
Oh yeah and my last was when I made the bball team in 7th grade
Bcuz in 5th grade I had failed to make the cut for the 5 th and 6th grade team
So I was pretty much redeeming myself
And my fav memory of the season was when in the last game we played we were losing by 12 and we all had our heads down
Then mr Phillips asked who wants it to the bench
I raised my hand lookin like an idiot but he put me in
And I went in and saw all my teammates heads down and it was their last yr
So I wanted to do something special
I purposely threw the ball away and then ran back to defend
I had to pick up 2 ppl in front of me
So I stood In front of the dude with the ball and took a football tackle right to the chest
The ref called an offensive foul
And I screamed my head off
And that seemed to wake us up
Bcos after that we played better
I barely played the rest of the game and we still lost
But I thought I had done the most I could do for he team
And I was proud of what we had accomplished
    So I was sad
But still a little happy after the game
    Wow
I can complain all I want but I still have some awesome memories here

    ReplyDelete
  73. One of my favorite memories is natures classroom.I remember at night all of the girls would come in me and Dominiques room and we would talk about stuff! haha and when we were supposed to be sleeping me and dominique would like throw stuff at the fan and one time we hit the fan with a little stuffed animal and it kinda got hurt.... anyways everything from natures classroom was so fun and im really going to miss everyone in my class!
